Teeth not meeting together properly can cause strain on the jaw joint and the muscles which operate that joint. The Jaw Joint is sometimes referred to as the TMJ and symptoms can include earache; jaw ache; facial pain; headaches and neck stiffness.
Occasionally the teeth also suffer problems due to excessive grinding (bruxing), usually at night time – numerous teeth may be aching and sensitive to temperature; the front teeth can be worn flat by a young age; and also we frequently notice strong enamel cusps breaking off teeth without any decay being present due to the heavy grinding loads.
All these symptoms will be worse when we are stressed for some reason, and usually pass when we are more chilled out.
